First Sino-Foreign Medical Students Badminton Competition
Friendship comes first and competition comes second. On 2019/10/18 The First Sino- Foreign Medical Students Badminton Competition was organized in Gucheng Campus of Dali University by School of Basic Medicine. Through critical observation it was clearly seen a fair and healthy competition with exchange of culture and sporting talent.
With a motivational speech from Professor Liu Fengqin, the opening ceremony of the competition begun, followed by Mr. Huang Ziqi taking oath on behalf of all the athletes and foreign teacher Kundu, Tournament referee taking oath on behalf of all other referees. After this, Professor Wu Yongcong declared the beginning of the competition.
This event was not only a competition but also a platform for cultural exchange and sporting interaction between Chinese and foreign students. Within these three days, the Chinese and Foreign student volunteers as well as the athletes worked together hand in hand, equally hard to make this event a success. All the referees were Chinese students arranged by sports college and the score cards were handled well by the combined effort of Chinese and foreign students of basic medicine college Union Members. The competition in total had four categories: Men’s singles, Women’s singles, Men’s double and Mix double. In the first round, there were a total of 43, 46, 27 and 26 participants respectively. The first round was conducted on Day 1. The second and third round of all the categories was conducted on Day 2. The participants played a match of 3 sets of 11 points each. All the matches were knockout games. The 8 winners from the second round and third rounds then entered the quarter finals and competed with their opponents for their place in semifinals. The quarter finals were conducted on Day 3. On the same day the semi- finals for all the categories were also held. The winners from the semifinals are now preparing for the final match, which is to be held on the next weekend depending on the class time schedules as our college has deemed to mention already that academic classes are priority.
With Few minor injury, slight pain and a lot of sweat a life time memory and friendship was successfully established through this event. Not only among participants, but also among volunteers and teachers, the coordination was really great
Though only few best among bests will win the title but the heart of opponent was won by everyone through fair competition. In future we hope that this tournament can become an annual event from basic medicine college which would be an opportunity for sports talent exchange between foreign and Chinese students.
Finally, the four day tournament has successfully ended with the combined effort of the volunteers, athletes and teachers’ team. The motto for exchange between the different cultures and establishing friendship. Professor Zhang Ben Si mentioned in her speech that the way to health is through sports and exercise. Both of these aims achieved with the help of this tournament.
On the last day, the finals for Men’s Singles, Men’s doubles and Mixed doubles’ category were held in Gucheng campus of Dali University.
In the closing ceremony, Mr. Kundu awarded the referees from the sports department for their contribution, Madam Yang Li awarded the second runner ups with their certificates, Professor Wu Youcong awarded the first runner ups and Professor Zhang Ben Si awarded the champions of this tournament.
Gold medals aren’t really made of gold, they’re made of sweat, determination and a hard to find alloy called guts. With three rounds of knockout matches, quarter finals, semifinals and finals, that included about 100 eliminations, the champions won the gold and rose with glory, but the hearts were won by every single participant. Though all were not able to leave with a trophy, but lifetime of memory, experience and friendship has been created.
